Sandblast rust on front fender extension, front valance panel, then body fill pits

By |2024-02-22T14:50:20-05:00January 19th, 2024|68' Firebird project|0 Comments

I used the sandblaster on the front fender extensions because it was a bit rusted. Then I used body filler to fill in the pits that the rust made. I now realize it is best to just buy replacement parts for these because they are only about $40 each. The front valance panel had some surface rust also. I used [...]

Installed passenger fender and hood

The passenger fender was installed a week or two earlier. Then I cleaned up under the hood and brushed on the rust oleum gloss black oil based paint. It seems decent but I later switch to regular ole black rust oleum oil based paint. For the price, the oil based product doesn’t seem much worse than chassis [...]

After the fail with hoisting the engine on a lift plate, I decided to just use a engine lift bar. The bar or beam basically hangs over the middle of the engine and has four chains which can be bolted down to the 4 sides of the block. Once you have the engine lift bar bolted down, you can slowly [...]

Problems with Pulling Out the Engine

By |2011-09-30T21:09:33-05:00September 30th, 2011|68' Firebird project, All Firebird & Classic Car Posts|0 Comments

There are a few different ways to pull out an engine and I was trying to find the best option. For my first attempt, I decided to lift the engine with a bracket bolted down to the intake manifold. With the carburetor removed, an engine lift manifold bracket can be tightened down to the surface. I learned a lesson here [...]
